Pathway was created on Sat Jul 29, 2006
General Information: Chlorophyll a (Chla) and chlorophyll b (Chlb) are the light harvesting pigments that function to capture photons and transfer them to the reaction centers. Chla and Chlb share the same structure except for the side chain at C-7 which is a methyl group in Chla and a formyl group in Chlb. This pathway describes the biosynthesis of Chla biosynthesis via the esterification of chlorophyllide a with geranylgeranyl diphosphate diphosphate. This esterification step is followed by several steps of reduction leading to the formation of chlorophyll a - aracyc
It occurs in chloroplast thylakoid membrane. References: - siva
Parts of this pathway occur in:   cytosol     thylakoid membrane     nucleus
